Environmental correctness:
So enticing it is to have a Native American be an environmental mentor that people will make one up if they can't find one. The best example is a letter supposedly written by Chief Seattle in the mid-19th century, but actually written by a screenwriter for a TV show and passed off as authentic.
When it comes to environmentalism, the motto seems to be, "Never let the truth get in the way of the message."

More on education...
You always hear people complaining about how "these kids today don't learn anything in school." Just a bunch of old geezers complaining, right? Well, not quite.
Enrollment in high school algebra declined by more than a factor of two during the first half of the 20th century, from about 57% to less than 25%. I wonder what it is now? More similar, dismaying statistics in this article:
